Revolutionary War Veteran. Continental Army. Served under General George Washington at Valley Forge in 1777. He was given a large land grant in Virginia after his service, on which he grew tobacco.
Elijah had 8 sons and 8 daughters. At age 21, Elijah gave each of his eight sons "a rifle, a dog, a horse, a saddle, and $2,100 in silver" to make a home for himself.
