Charlie Pennington is a part of US Black heritage.
Charlie was born about 1869 in Pennsylvania.
He was the son of Harriet and Civil War veteran William F. Pennington of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first regiment in the United States to enlist men of color during that war. His uncle Elias Pennington also served, with the 8th United States Colored Troops (USCT.)
