Jasper married Mary F. (Frances) McMahan on February 25, 1874 in Lamar, Randolph, Alabama. This record does not given their ages. [1]
Census
1850 Census. Benjamin age 39 b. in SC was living in Fayette County, Alabama along with his wife, Sarah Penington age 38 b. in TN along with nine of their children: Levi age 17 b. AL; Martha J., age 16 b. in AL; Linda E. age 15 b. AL; Joseph age 13 b. AL; Elijah age 10 b. AL; Benjamin age 8 b. MS; Avelin age 5 b. in MS; Jasper age 2 b. in AL; and Newton, age 2 b. in AL. [2]
Note: I'm not sure if Jasper and Newton were twins or were born so close they were the same age for awhile. Also, why were Benjamin and Avelin born in MS and none of the other children were. Did they move there briefly and then come back or do they belong to one of the other Pennington..
Note: Amos and his wife lived close by.
1860 Census. Benjamin was living with Sarah along with six children in the home in the Western Division, Fayette, Alabama. The six children were: Benjamin, Eleander; Jasper, Newton, John and William. Jasper and Newton do appear to be twins since this is the second Censu I've found where they are the same age. Looks like from this Census, that John and William are in fact their children.
Note: I had not found the 1860 Census when I made the notation abt John and William in the 1870 Census. But now, Eleander was not in the 1860 Census nor the 1870 Census so I'm thinking that might be a middle name. She had probably already moved out in the 1870 Census. Not sure why she's not in the 1860 Census.[3]
1870 Census. Benj (Benjamin) age 59 b. in SC was living at home with his spouse, Sarah (Unknown) Pennington age 39 b. in TN, in Sanford Alabama. Jasper was 20 and still living at home b. 1850 in Alabama. Note: This contradicts the 1850 Census where he would have been born in 1848.John T age 17 b. in AL and William W. age 15 b. in AL and Levi age 8 born in AL.
Note: At this point in my research, I'm not sure if these last three are their children. I'm not entering them until further research is done.
Note: Benjamin Pennington, his son, age 24 b. in MS along with wife, Nancy age 21 b. in TN was living next door with a son age 1 b. in AL[4]
1880 Census. Jasper was living at home with his spouse, Frances (Fannie). He was 30 and Frances was 28. They were both born in Alabama. There were three sons and two daughters in the home: Newton age 6; Benjamin age 4; John C. age 3, Mary L. age 6 and Jasper's mother, Sarah Pennington age 69.[5]
1910 Census. Jasper was living at home with his spouse, Francis along with two sons and one daughter: Fred age 18; Columbus age 15 and Bettie May age 13. The children were all born in Mississippi. Jasper was 62 and Francis was 56 both born in Alabama.[6]
1930 Census. Jasper was living at home with his spouse, Fannie Pennington in Beat 3, Pontotoc, Mississippi. This gives his birth year as 1849 in Alabama, he was 81. Fannie was 78 b. in Alabama. It list list parents birth place as SC.[7]
