John was born about 1844. He is the son of Joseph Pennington and Mary Hankins.

Census

1850 Census. Joseph was living with his spouse, Mary, in Fayette, Alabama. Joseph was 37 and Mary was 37. There were eight children living with them at the time. Francis M. age 12; Debe A. age 11; Tabitha A. age 9; Martha M. age 8; John B. age 6; Sis age 4; Rubin age 2 and Malinda who was less than one year old. They were all born in Alabama.^[1]

1860 Census. After Mary died, Joseph was living with his brother, William, and the following children: Francis age 20; Martha age 18 (probably Francis Martha); John age 15 (probably John B); Lousia age 13; Roland age 12 (probably Rubin in the 1850 Census); Malinda age 10 and Minervia age 9 (must have been born after the 1850 Census was taken).^[2]
