Biography

Richard Pennington in SC 1768 [1]

Recently I was given some information on Mary Pennington; daughter of Richard and Eleanor (Pritchard?) Pennington.

According to the 1850 Census of Tipton Co., IN, Jefferson TWP mico-film it shows R. F. Minnis, age 51, no occupation, born in Va., and could not read; Mary age 51, born in Va., could not read; Sarah age 23, born in Va.; Mary age 17 born in Va.; Rebecca age 16 born in Va.; Margaret age 12, born in Va.; and Mary Minnis age 82, born in SC could not read and blind.

ROBERT P. MINNIS, JR., born November 22, 1797, in Pendleton County, WV, and died Aft. July 15, 1875, in Kosciusco, IN.; son of Robert Minnis and Mary Pennington. He married MARY PHARES January 22, 1823, in Pendleton County,WV, daughter of JOHNSON PHARES and SARAH NEGLEY. Mary Phares was born May 15, 1799, Pendleton County, WV and died April 21, 1863, in Indiana.

ROBERT MINNIS was born Abt. 1768 in Virginia, and died July 12, 1824 in Pendleton County, WV. He married MARY PENNINGTON Abt. 1795 in Pendleton County, WV, daughter of RICHARD PENNINGTON and ELEANOR PRITCHARD. Mary Pennington was born 1768.

The 1850 Census of Tipton Co., IN, Jefferson TWP is a clue that may suggest that Richard and Eleanor (Pritchard) Pennington were in South Carolina in 1768.

Another lady who sent me this information told me that many of the Pennington's in the Va area moved to South Carolina.
