Research Notes

David (age 64) may have been on his way to, or waiting to be admitted as a patient in, the Kingston Union Workhouse Infirmary on the day of the 1911 Census Returns for England and Wales, recorded for the night of 2 April 1911, as an entry still needs to be located. From his death certificate we learn that he died in the Union Infirmary and that his usual address was 5 Avenue Terrace, Kingston Road, New Malden. A Census record for that address shows that this was the residence of James William Dallimore and his family. It is significant that Ada Dallimore, James's wife, was the daughter of David so maybe he lived with them before admittance to the Infirmary. My guess is that James Dallimore did not include his father-in-law on the Census Return because he was not technically living there at the time and the hospital missed adding him to their return. The enumerator of the 1911 Census of Kingston Union Workhouse Infirmary was the matron, Miss Annie Smith. Her record and other sources provided information on the institution's 465 in-patients, 53 resident nurses, two medical officers and 13 resident domestic servants; however after searching the records on Ancestry I was unable to locate an entry for David.
