The marriage of Miss Mona Merrifield to Mr. J. Pereira took place in the Wesley Church, William Street, Perth on Saturday October 29 at 4 o'clock. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Charles Jenkins, and Mr. Craft, the Church organist, presided at the organ. During the signing of the register. Mr. C. L. Jenkins sang the wedding hymn from the Wesley Hymn book.
The bride, who was given away by her father, looked very sweet and graceful in her bridal gown of Chantilly lace and georgette, the skirt being composed of godettes commencing from the hip on the right and falling away to the hem-line on the left. The low cut bodice was of georgette, over which was worn a lace bolero coat with full length sleeves. Her pretty oval veil was beautifully embroidered, and was worn well back off the face, held in position by a cluster of orange blossom and arranged to form a train. She carried a white satin, muff, shirred and finished with a ribbon bow and nosegays of orange blossom. Her pearls were loaned for the occasion by a very old friend of the family, Mrs. J. T. Mills of Albany.
The two bridesmaids were frocked alike in cream georgette with fully flared skirts trimmed with bands of satin, the bodices being close fitting and shirred at the waistline, with dainty puffed sleeves shirred at the top. Miss Jean Merrifield, first bridesmaid and sister of the bride, wore a pretty saxe blue hat with foliage of gold under turned upbrim, and carried a posy of shaded pansies. Miss (Nurse) S. Westcott, second bridesmaid and friend of the bride, whose hat was of old gold caught up at the brim with blue lilac, also carried a posy of shaded pansies. Both bridesmaids wore necklaces and bracelets of rhinestones, the gifts of the bridegroom.
The duties of best man were carried out by the bridegroom's brother, Mr. Les. Pereira.
After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Carlton Cafe, where Mr. and Mrs. Merrifield received a number of old friends and relations. During the wedding breakfast, at which Mr. Jenkins presided, the usual toasts were honoured, including that of the bride and bridegroom. A large number of congratulatory telegrams from all over the State, and from Victoria were read.
Amongst the musical items rendered was a pianoforte duet by Misses J. Merrifield and T. Pereira, two songs by Mr. Grange and a violin solo by Miss T. Pereira.
The happy couple left by car for their honey moon, the bride travelling in a tomato red and black spotted ensemble, with a smart little black hat trimmed with red berries.
Their future home will be at Kalgoorlie.
He passed away on 6 July 1985 in Kensington, Western Australia, Australia[4]
