Abel was the third child of Louis Perez and Elena Gonzalez.
Alice Echo-News Journal (TX) - Wednesday, July 19, 2017 Luz Abel "L.A." Perez Freer - Luz Abel "L.A." Perez, 81, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Alice, Texas on March 25, 1936[1] to his parents, Louis and Elena Gonzalez Perez. He was a 1956 graduate of William Adams High School. He served his country as a US Army Veteran in the Korean War. He married his high school sweetheart, Ida upon returning from the service on August 4, 1961 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Alice VFW Post # 8621. He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and chartered the Council #7167 of the Knights of Columbus in Freer, Texas. He retired after 31 years of employment with Southwestern Bell Co. (AT&T Telephone Co.) and after retiring he joined his wife full time at Freer Furniture Inc. He was a Freer Jaycee in Freer, Texas and was involved in several civic organizations. He enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be sadly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Zulema Carter and Trini Lopez; his parents-in-law, Emma P. Hernandez and Felipe Hernandez; two brothers-in-law, Felipe N. Hernandez Jr. and Armando "Curly" Lopez.
Abel is survived by his wife of 56 years of marriage, Ida H. Perez of Freer, Texas; three sons, David A. (Juanita) Perez of Robstown, Texas; Edward A. (Barbara) Perez of Mesquite, Texas; Louis A.(Anna C. ) Perez of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Sylvia A. (Rudy) Leal of Freer, Texas; Judith A. Perez of Tyler, Texas; five brothers, George (Eva) Perez of Kingsville, Texas; Enrique (Yolanda) Perez of Bakersfield, CA; Edelmiro (Lupita) Perez of Premont, Texas; Reymundo (Alma) Perez of San Antonio, Texas; Louis (Isaura) Perez of Alice, Texas; two sisters, Yolanda (Oscar) Escobar and Viola (Gilbert) Martinez both of Corpus Christi, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary (Gilbert) Sanchez; two brothers-in-law, Joe (Helen) Hernandez and Gilbert Hernandez; mother-in-law, Josie Hernandez; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 till 9 pm. on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017 St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freer, Texas. Military Graveside Service and Interment will follow at Hahl Memorial Cemetery in Freer, Texas with Alice Burial Veterans Association.
