Cornelius Perkins, son of Gideon Perkins and Desire Dunham, was born 25 Dec 1775 in Carver, Plymouth, Massachusetts.[1][2][3][4]

MARRIAGE and CHILDREN
Cornelius married Mercy Barrows[3][4] on 20 Nov 1796 in Carver, Massachusetts.[5] They had ten children[3] as follows:[6]

  1. Luther, b. 10 Dec 1797, d. Weld ME; m1. Sally Durell, m2. Olive Brown; minister;
  2. Cornelius, b. 4 Nov 1799, d. young;
  3. Gideon, b. 22 Nov 1801, m. Polly Dunham; minister;
  4. Seth, b. 2 Sep 1803, m. Laodicea Dudley;
  5. Mercy, b. 8 Aug 1805, m. Isaac Davis;
  6. Desire, b. 28 Dec 1807, m. Harvey Berry;
  7. Daniel, b. 23 Apr 1810, m. Drusilla Fuller;
  8. Cyrus, b. 14 Jan 1812, d. 1880; m. Harriet Dunham;
  9. Charles, b. 24 Jan 1814, m. Amazina Cushman;
  10. Cornelius, b. 19 Jul 181[7], d. 1833.

LIFE EVENTS
In 1798, Cornelius Perkins owned 50 acres in Paris, Maine, valued at $75 (his house, valued at less than $100, was not included in this valuation).[6] He is thought to be one of the first settlers in that area.[3]

In 1803, Cornelius and his family removed from Paris to Woodstock, Maine, and settled on lot #6 of Smith's survey, in the east part of Woodstock, the grant to Gorham Academy.[4][6]

At the Sep 1819 Woodstock town meeting, Cornelius Perkins was chosen to be the delegate to represent Woodstock at the convention to frame a constitution for the new state of Maine.[3][4]

Cornelius was in a Woodstock town office for 30 or more years.[3][4] He was also a deacon of the baptist church. Cornelius was one of the organizers of the second baptist church in Paris, Maine (the North Paris Church aka Paris and Woodstock Church) that was established 11 Mar 1828[/29] and was its first deacon.[7] He was a member of Maine Temperance Society in about 1832[4] and represented the Paris and Woodstock Church at the [baptist church] association in 1834 and 1835.[6]

After his wife, Mercy, died in 1856, Cornelius removed from Woodstock to Paris, Maine, where he died.[6]

U.S. CENSUS
The Cornelius Perkins household was enumerated in the following United States Federal Census records:

  • 1800 in Hebron, Oxford, Maine: 3 males and 1 female.[8] (Hebron is adjacent to southeast Paris).
  • 1810 - not found.
  • 1820 in Woodstock, Oxford, Maine: 7 males and 3 females.[9]
  • 1830 in Woodstock, Oxford, Maine: 5 males and 2 females.[10]
  • 1840 in Woodstock, Oxford, Maine: 1 male and 1 female.[11]
  • 1850 in Woodstock, Oxford, Maine: Cornelius, age 74 and Mercy, age 75.[12]

DEATH and BURIAL
Cornelius died in Paris, Maine,[4] aged 83, in 1858,[3][6] on 20 Dec, and was buried at Dunham Neighborhood Cemetery (aka Koskela-Dunham Cemetery), South Woodstock, Oxford Co., Maine.[13]

Research Notes

Little states that Cornelius married first to Experience, daughter of Samuel Battles,[3] however no record of this marriage has been found.
