Thomas was born about 1745.
Thomas Perkins, a native of London, Eng., deserted from an English man-of-war, and landed at Boston 1765. To avoid re-capture he assumed the name of Arms. Afterward moved to Clarendon , VT., then to Swanton, VT., and finally settled in St. Armand, P. Q. (see Edward W Arms reference below)
Thomas married Martha "Patty" Rhodes on April 11, 1773 in Worthington, MA. They were the parents of Charles, Mary "Polly", Patience, Thomas, William, John, Richard (1789-1862), and Rueben Arms.
After 1782 Thomas and family moved to Chittenden County, VT. By 1786 they were in Swanton when their son William was born. Next they moved to Richford, VT. When the line between the US and Canada was drawn, some of their land, including their home, was in Canada. His was the only frame house in the area. It was located on the main road from Richford, VT to Montreal, Canada. Thomas had a large orchard. Sometimes he served as a judge for local disagreements.
