Biography

Roy Franklin Perkins, son of Fred E. and Katherine (Yates) Perkins, was born on 3 March 1892 at Mayfield, Fulton County, New York.[1]

In 1917 Roy joined the Army. He served in Battery A of the 126th Field Artillery Battalion in France.

He married Nora Eileen Ferguson, daughter of John Bernard Ferguson and Sarah A. (Morrow) Ferguson, 2 Jun 1926 in Denver, Colorado. [2]

In 1940 Roy moved the family from Cowdrey, Colorado to Marina, California. The family lived with Roy's brother Carl for about a year. Then sometime in 1941 Roy purchased a gas station with a small store and a home in Placerville, California. In 1945 an electrical fire burned the house and the station. With insurance money and help from the community he was able to rebuild.[3] In 1948 Roy decided to lease out the gas station and try farming. So he moved the family to McCune, Kansas. By 1951 Roy and family were back in Placerville, California and working the gas station again. By the late 1950's the gas station was taken by the State of California under eminent domain when they expanded Hwy 50, although Perk's Corner is still a location on the map.

Roy and Nora then retired and moved to the ranch in Lincoln, California. The ranch is still owned by the family.

Roy and Nora kept the property in McCune, Kansas which would later be given to their youngest daughter Kathy Perkins Allen.

Roy died on 27 Aug. 1978 at Lincoln, Placer County, California and was buried at Rocklin Cemetery, Rocklin, Placer County, California. His memorial has a photo of his headstone, biographical material and links to those of family members.[4]
