Freelove Perkins was born in 1821, the daughter of David Perkins and Judith Blanchard. Her birth date is recorded on the Obituary of her daughter, whose funeral (22 Feb. 1908) was reported to be on her mother's 87th birthday.^[1] The birth year is corroborated by other records herein, including her 1851 marriage (age 30) and several censuses, except the 1901 census at 22 Feb. 1820 (see below).

On 16 Oct. 1844, Freelove married her first cousin William Wallace Blanchard.^[2]

In their short time together, William and Freelove had three children:

1. Lydia Ann, b. 2 May 1845; d. 24 May 1845
2. Edgar William, b. 24 May 1846; m1. Florence Blanchard, 31 Dec. 1869; m2. Annie E. Welcome, 30 Oct. 1876; d. aft. 1920, and
3. Freelove Josette, b. 14 Sep. 1847; m. Edward L. Noyes, 18 Feb. 1873; d. 19 Feb. 1908.

Just 6 days before she gave birth to her third child (Freelove Josette), Freelove lost her husband, at the shocking age of only 25 years and 3 months.

On 1 April 1851, Freelove married James Darling, a native of Stowe, Vermont.^[3] The marriage record recorded her at age 30. The couple settled in Potton, Canada East, where they were recorded together on the 1861,^[4] census, with Freelove's daughter Freelove living with her and James, while son Edgar was separately living with Edgar's grandmother. On the 1871 census, Freelove and James were living with both her children, as well as Edgar's new wife.^[5] Freelove and James were living alone (always in Potton) on the 1881^[6] and 1891 censuses.^[7]

Freelove lost her (second) husband James in 1894.^[8] She remained in Potton until at least 1901, when she was recorded there with son Edgar.^[9] In her final years, she spent time living with her children in Worcester county, MA. She was recorded with her son Edgar, in North Brookfield, MA on the 1910 census, both living in the household of Edgar's daughter Freda and son-in-law Neal Jackson.^[10]

She passed away in Vermont in 1913, at the age of 92.^[11] She was buried in Mansonville Protestant Cemetery.^[12]
