Susan L. Perkins, daughter of Aaron Perkins and Olive (LIttlefield) Perkins, was born about 1834 in Maine.^[1][2] She appeared on the census of 28 July 1850 in the home of her parents at York, York, Maine.^[3]

She was of York, Maine and Joseph H. Smith was of Ipswich, Massachusetts when they filed their intentions of marriage on 5 May 1854 at Ipswich, Massachusetts.^[4]
