Biography

Tiley Eliza Perkins was the oldest child of Phebe & Eliab Perkins born 1824 in Wayne Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania. In 1849 she married Samuel Harvey Smith, a blacksmith, the son of Samuel Smith and Sarah Hindman from Venango Township, Erie county, Pennsylvania.

Tiley and Samuel's only daughter Sarah Jennie was born in Dec 1850. She was called Jennie throughout her life. When she married Stephen Howard in 1869 they made their residence with her parents. They remained at the Smith home until moving to Ashland, Middlesex County, MA prior to 1900 to join Stephen's widowed brother Edson.

When her father, Eliab Perkins, died his will bequeathed "my daughter Tiley E. Smith all of my interest in the Village lot that my heirs conveyed to her, situated in the City of Corry. Also I give and bequeath unto Tiley E. my daughter seventy five dollars to compensate her for her and her husband's attendance on me while confined to their house in illness while sick during the year last past."
