James was born in 1838. He was the son of Hiram Perkins and Elizabeth King. He passed away in 1913.[1] In the 1850 US Census, James was 12 and living with his family in Saratoga, Saratoga County, New York[2].

In the 1880 U.S. Census, James, Elizabeth, and their three children were living in Jefferson Township, Carroll, Indiana, [6]: James Perkins Self Male 42 New York; Elizabeth Perkins Wife Female 42 Ohio; Mary E. Perkins Daughter Female 16 Indiana; Josephine Perkins Daughter ;Female 14 Indiana; Charles Perkins Son Male 10 Indiana, United States.
