On 6 January 1794, Joshua Perkins Jr. purchased 75 acres with a house, barn, grist mill and dam from his father. On 28 March 1800, Joshua Perkins sold the property to Samuel Thomas for $800.[2]

The Carver, Massachusetts household of Joshua Perkins was recorded as having 3 males and 3 females on the 1790 United States Census.[7][8]

Possible Intent to Marry

It appears that Joshua filed an intention to marry Lydia Rawson on 23 September 1797 in Carver, one week before his death.[9]

Death and Probate

Joshua Perkins died on 30 September 1797 in Carver, Massachusetts,[2] aged 68y, 3m, 3d,[10] and was buried at Lakenham Cemetery, Carver, Plymouth, Massachusetts.[3][11]

Joshua died intestate and, on 24 November 1797, his son Gideon requested to be excused from serving as administrator of Joshua's estate and asked that his brother, Luke Perkins, serve in his place.[2][12] The next day, Luke was appointed administrator, with Benjamin Shaw and Benjamin Shurtleff acting as sureties (PC PR #15607).[13] His inventory was taken on 12 March 1798 in Carver.[14]

Research Notes

DAR and MSSR call him lieutenant, but Mayflower Deeds & Probates, Mayflower Births and Deaths, MA Compiled BMD (Ancestry db), VR for his death and his wife's death and Find A Grave (headstone photo) have him as Capt. Prefix changed from lieut. to capt. as capt. is on his headstone, assuming he achieved that rank after the Revolutionary War.
