Sommerville Matthias Perkins one of 11 children of Samuel & Jane Perkins was born in April 1864 on the MacDonald River, New South Wales, Australia which is in the Hawkesbury region of New South Wales.
He was married at least twice, the first time to Alice Mary (or May) Margetts in 1886 at Casino in New South Wales, Australia. He went on to have at least 9 children with Alice until she passed away in August 1905.
He later married Maud Reilly in Queensland, Australia in 1908. He went on to have at least 3 more children with Maud before her untimely demise in 1913, she would have been no more that 33 at this time.
Sommerville Perkins was a Licensed Victualler and also a race horse owner. He had the distinction of being one of the first Licencees in New South Wales to have his licence cancelled under section 40A of the Liquor Act of 1912. The Junction Inn, North Tumbulgum had been found to have been vacated and left to decay and the improvements ordered by the Licensing Court had not been complied with.
Sommerville Matthias Perkins himself lived till January 1942 and is buried at the Murwillumbah Cemetery, Old Lismore Rd, Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia.
