In April 1910, two-year-old Elsie was living with her parents and three older siblings in the town of Tripp in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. Her father John was a cattle stock buyer. They lived in a house they owned freely.
In 1925, eighteen-year-old Elsie was living in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. She belonged to the Reformed Church.
