Biography

Eva Belle Perry was born 17 June 1870 in Vernon Township, Shiawassee, Michigan the daughter of John Perry and Lydia Hall. [1]

She appeared in the household of her parents on the 1880 United States Census in Vernon Township, Shiawassee, Michigan.[2]

Eva Belle and Henry Alexander Spraker married 15 November 1888 at Vernon, Shiawassee, Michigan.[3] They were the paents of four children, Frank M.(1890), Lulu M.(1892), Raymond(1905) and Perry(1908). Her death record states she was the mother of four children, all living.[4] Perry was raised by his aunt Addie (Perry) Germond after Eva Belle's death.

The 1900 Census showed Eva Belle and Henry living on Oak Street, Durand, Shiawassee, Michigan with children Frank and Lulu. Grace Cortrite is listed as a servant in the household. Grace married Eva Belle's cousin Guy Perry in 1901. Henry's occupation is teamster. At this time, Eva Belle was the mother of 2 children both of whom were living.[5]

Eva Belle died 27 February 1908 at Durand. The cause of death is difficult to read, but includes from "after spells of typhoid fever weakness of labor and [] [] had bronchial pneumonia [] [] [] []." A two word contributory cause is also listed, but not clear enough to transcribe. The duration of her illness had been seven days. Son Perry had been born 25 February.[4]

Eva Belle was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon, Michigan.[4]

Research Notes

Birth Year

Eva Belle's death record gives her birth year as 1869. This appears to be an error. Her birth record has the date of 17 June 1870. She does not appear on the 1870 Census with her parents which should have listed all born before 1 June 1870. Her grave marker also gives her birth year as 1870.
