Research Notes

Birth Year

  • Henry's birth year varies - the earliest record is the 1870 Census where he is listed as age 5 (1865 if February is correct). However, his death record gives 14 February 1864 which appears to be incorrect.
  • 1865 is the most consistent date on Censuses: 1880 - 10 (1865); 1900 - February 1865; 1930 - 65 (1865), 1940 - 75 (1865). The 1910 and 1920 Census records - 44 (1866) and 54 (1866).
  • The marriage record for Henry and Bertha Fowler gives his age as 18, but this is clearly incorrect as he would have been 28 in March of 1893. Bertha's age is also given as 18.
