Mary Gladys Vanderlip youngest daughter of John and Eliza Vanderlip was born March 23rd 1887 and passed away at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville Mar. 8th, 1926 aged 39 years, eleven months and 13 days after a lingering illness of several years.
When she was three weeks old her mother died and she was taken by an aunt, Mrs. Jessie Sanford, to Nebraska to reside and remained there until she was twelve year of age, at which time the aunt died and she returned to Meredosia to live with her father until his death about one year ago.
Her health began to fail rapidly from that time and she was cared for by her step brother, Milton Moon, who made his home with her. During her years of suffering she bore her trials with Christian fortitude. She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by one brother Judson Vanderlip of New Iberia, Louisiana, and one sister, Mrs. Edward Hyatt of Meredosia.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning at the Church of Christ and were conducted by Rev. Geo. Scrimger pastor of the Methodist church. A quartet composed of H. A. Naylor, Rev. Geo. Scrimger, Mrs. L. H. Yost and Mrs. T. W. Burdick sang, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “No Tears in Paradise” and “Jesus Saviour Pilot Me.” The bearers were Milton Moon, Harold Gard, Earl Swisher, Elza Ham, George Unland, J. H. Kupfer. Interment took place in Oakland cemetery in Meredosia.... The Jacksonville Daily Journal (Jacksonville, IL), Sunday, 14 Mar 1926, p. [22].
