Isabella married, the Rt. Hon. Sir William Henry Gregory, (the son of Robert Gregory and Elizabeth O'Hara), on the 4th March, 1880 in Dublin, in Ireland.
They had one son, William, who was tragically killed in the 1st World War.
Isabella was a playwright, who, along with Yeats, Edward Martyn and others, co-founded the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. She was a leading light in the Irish Literary Revival of the late 19th/early 20th Centuries.
Yeats wrote: "When in later years her literary style became in my ears the best written by woman, she had made the people part of her soul; a phrase of Aristotle's had become her motto: To think like a wise man, but to express oneself like the common people."
She died of breast cancer at home in Galway in 1932, aged 80.
