Thomas Peter, son of Robert and Elizabeth (Scott) Peter, was born 4 January 1769[1][2] in George Town, Frederick, Maryland.[3]
Thomas married Martha (Patty) Parke Custis, daughter of John Parke Custis and Eleanor Calvert, on 6 January 1795 at Hope Park in Fairfax, Virginia, the Stuart estate, her mother having married David Stuart after her father's death.[4]
Thomas died 16 April 1834 in Georgetown. His grave site is at Seneca, Montgomery County, Maryland.[2]
Note: Somehow his grave was marked with a birth year of 1776, but the 1776 census show the error. While the census would make him born in 1768, 4 January 1769 is the generally accepted date. 1769 is the year given by Wendy Kail, probably the world's foremost authority on Thomas Peter.
Tudor Place, their estate in Georgetown, is a museum today, and the namesake of the Tudor Place Foundation, which manages and maintains it. A page on Thomas and Martha Peter has reproductions of their portraits.
