Elizabeth passed away at the Bradley Extended Care Home on Oct. 6, 2010 at the age of 87. She was born in Altenau, Ukraine.
She came to Canada on June 22, 1948 and worked as a farm labourer in Springsteen Manitoba. In November 1948 she moved to Chilliwack, BC and worked in housekeeping at the Empress Hotel. In 1949 Michael Chayka was able to locate her after meeting her through a fence as she was working as a farm laborer on a Collective Farm and he was in a POW camp in Schnau, Germany. They were married Dec. 30, 1951 and she became a homemaker. (from obituary)
