Frederick G. Peters was born about 1805 in Virginia. His father was Elisha Peters, and his mother was Elisha's first wife (name in dispute).
On 6 Sep 1827 in Bedford County, Virginia, Frederick married Ann Reed.
Frederick was a very prosperous merchant with substantial real estate holdings. The 1860 census lists him with real estate valued at $47,750 and a personal estate valued at $78,000.
Frederick was a slave holder, and the 1860 slave schedule shows him holding 33 slaves. From November 1862 to January 1863, at least four slaves belonging to Frederick were impressed by agents of the Confederate government and made to work on fortifications near Richmond, Virginia. The slaves were George, Robert "Bob," Tom, and Sam (though there was also documentation signed for Austin, he did not appear on this payroll). Frederick received $16 per month for the 60 days the men worked. From February to May 1864, Frederick's slave, Tom, worked again for an additional 70 days at $20 per month.
The date of Frederick's death is unknown.
