Robert, also called "Bob," was a slave who was impressed by agents of the Confederate government to perform work on the 'Brooke Defenses' at an unstated location in Virginia, from November 1862 to January 1863. During that time, Robert worked 60 days, for which his owner, Frederick G. Peters, received $16 per month. Robert appears on Payroll 917 for slaves impressed from Nelson County, Virginia.[1][2]
The year of Robert's birth is estimated based on the thought that he was likely at least 15 years of age at the time of his impressment.
