During the Revolutionary War in 1777 he joined his father's Loyalist regiment, the Queen's Loyal Rangers as an Ensign, and served during Burgoyne's ill-fated campaign. Returned to Quebec after the surrender at Saratoga, he was assigned to the Loyal Rangers, under Col. Col. of the 1st Regiment Northumberland Militia during the War of 1812.

Research Notes

According to "Peters of New England : a genealogy, and family history", the couple had 6 children (no dates listed):

  • Mary Ann Barnet
  • John
  • Margaret McGregore Rogers [an ancestry tree lists "Baptism records of Rev. John Langhorn" as a source, along with an 1846 death date]
  • David McGregore Rogers
  • James Samuel Rogers
  • Ann Barnet

4 of these are supported by "Orders in Council" claims listed in "The Loyalists in Ontario, Addenda", page 367:

  • Mary Ann Barnet, OC 9 Dec 1815
  • John of Cramahe, OC 20 May 1817
  • David McGregor Rogers of Haldimand, OC 21 Sept 1837 [very likely to be David Peters].
  • Ann B. of Cramahe, OC 3 Mar 1836 [according to some online trees, this is the same individual as Mary Ann Barnet, just filing under another name].

Mary Ann Barnet probably married a John Coffan and resided in Cramahe, Northumberland, Ontario in 1851, 1861, 1871 per marriage records [1].

A transcription of Reverend John Langhorn's church records has some likely baptisms for children: http://my.tbaytel.net/bmartin/langhorn.htm. It lists dates for a Mary Ann, John and Margaret R Peters.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Peters-2927 and Peters-3326 appear to represent the same person because: This merger resolved the name of "unknown Peters", and adds the descendants.
