Note: Marcusina was born Marcusina Petrea Petersen in Apenrade, Germany
01 July 1849. Apenrade is now known as Aabenraa, Denmark. Her birth
record found in church records there. Her mother, Maria Wichmann,
married Carl Friedrich Pfitzner in 1852. In 1854,the family immigrated
to America, settling in New Orleans. Marcusina married Johann Fried-
rich Wichmann, her cousin, in about 1867 in New Orleans. They had a
son who died when he was 2 1/2 years old and he is buried in New
Orleans. They had 12 children, only 5 surviving until adulthood. Three
small children are buried in the Wichmann Family Plot in Summit, where
the family settled in 1872. Marcusina was very active in church, the
Pisgah Presbyterian Church of Summit, Mississippi She was president of the
Embroidery Club and according to newspaper article found, she held
many meetings and served delicious refreshments in her lovely home on
State Street. She told of a trip she made to Chicago in 1902 and how
the embroidery work of the members compared to the exquisite work she
had examined at one of the fine emporiums in Chicago. She hoped to see
some of their work exhibited at the World's Fair in 1904. She was
president of the Woodlawn Cememtery Association and was a charter
member of the Edith Chapter Eastern Star of Summit.
Marcusina Fitzner Wichmann is the name on her tombstone in Summit, Mississippi.
where she is buried beside her husband, Johann Friedrich Wichmann.
The three children, who are buried in the Wichmann Family Plot in
Summitt were named; Warwick, Lavinia, and Christine. No other names
or dates are on the tombstones.
The name Pfitzner was "Americanized", changing the spelling to
Fitzner.
