Forrest Silas Petersen (May 16, 1922 – December 8, 1990), (VADM, USN), was a United States Navy aviator and test pilot.

1950 Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering, U.S. Naval Postgraduate School
1951 Master of Science in Engineering, Princeton University. During his Navy career, he was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

1957 Selected by the Navy for the X-15 program in X-15 Pilots group[1]
1958 Flew five X-15 missions, attained a top speed of Mach 5.3 and a maximum altitude of 31,029 meters.
