Niels Fredrick Petersen who resided at 434 1st Ave., S. W., passed away Friday, August 30, 1957, after a sickness lasting five months. He was 68 years of age. He had been hospitalized previously and then taken to his home several weeks ago. He passed away a home.
Mr. Petersen, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jorgen Petersen, was born on October 7, 1888, in Vaile, Denmark. At the age of 17 he came to the United States first settling at Omaha, where he worked for the railroad. In 1914, he came to Le Mars where he farmed for several years before retiring to Le Mars where he since resided.
He was united in marriage with Elsie Kloster on November 28, 1916, at the Danish Lutheran church, Oyens.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 3, at 2 p. m., at St. John's American Lutheran church in Le Mars with Rev. Harold Tegtmeier officiating. Burial was in the Remsen cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home.
Friends called at the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home in Le Mars from Sunday noon until Monday noon when the body was taken to the church.
Survivors include the widow, Elsie; a daughter, Miss Evalyn Petersen at home; a son, Alvin Petersen of Remsen; a brother, Frederick, living in Denmark; several nieces and nephews in Denmark and also a number of nieces and nephews in this country.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Fern, and two brothers, Hans and Jens Petersen.
