Research Notes
According to the 1900 U.S. Census for Utica Township, Minnesota, Mary Ann and her husband Herman Burt are living next door to her father Andrew Peterson. [7]Andrew is listed as being 72 years of age, born in July 1837 at Sweden. He emigrated in 1854 and his occupation is listed as Farming. His wife's name, however, is Katherine, 64 years of age, born Jan 1836 at Germany. She emigrated in 1849. They are listed as being married for 30 years. They have one son listed John, 23 years of age, born Jan 1877 at Minnesota.
This suggests that Katherine is Andrew's second wife. He married his first wife, Nancy Ramer on 3 March 1861 [8]His first wife, Nancy Ramer would have died before 1870.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
Profile Manager (a head's up): Mary Anne's father was Andrew Peterson from Sweden. He was likely married twice. The 1900 U.S. Census for Utica Township shows Andrew (b. Jul 1827, Sweden, emigrated 1854) living on the farm next to Herman and Mary Ann Burt. He is married to Katherine (b. Jan 1836, Germany, emigrated 1849). They have a son John (b. Jan 1877, MN). They were married for 30 years, which would mean that Andrew's first wife Nancy died before 1870, not in the 1900s. I also have a marrige record for Andrew and Nancy. I will add this information over the weekend.
