Biography

Hans Peterson, a Holsteiner born in 1631, was a soldier with the Dutch forces that captured New Sweden in September 1655. He soon married a Swedish maiden named Anna. A miller, residing on Skilpot Creek, Hans Peterson became very active in the Swedish church and lived until 1720. His children included sons named Carl, Peter, Paul and Israel Peterson and daughters named Magdalena and Engelkie. [1]

Hans Petersson (Skilpot Creek, Brandywine hundred) ... nickname was Patascus. ...As the 1693 census does not list him among those who were born in Sweden, it is presumed that he was a Holsteiner. The name of Hans Petersson first appears in the Delaware River valley on 14 Nov 1668, when a patent was issued to Hans Pieters for a tract then in his possession at "the Indians or Wild Hook," the name given to the land on the northwest side of Skilpot Creek at its junction with the Brandywine, bounded on the west by Jacob Vander Verr's land. He steadily added adjoining properties, including the lands of the community gristmill that he operated, until by 1693 he owned over 1,000 acres bordering Skilpot Creek. ... He was named to the church committee on 30 July 1697 ... Hans Petersson died within a few months after 16 August 1720 when he and his wife Annicka conveyed 148 acres on Skilpot Creek to his youngest son, Israel Peterson. [2]

"Magdalena Pålsdotter became the second wife of Hans Peterson alias Petascus, a Holsteiner, born in 1631, who had arrived on the Delaware as a Dutch soldier. He had previously been married to a daughter of Carl Jönsson, a Finn who came on the Mercurius in 1656. She bore him a son named Carl. Hans Peterson was fined 50 guilders in the Long Finn Rebellion... At the time of his death, c. 1720, Hans Peterson had married a third time, to a wife named Anna."[3]

This profile is pretty-well documented now and we need to settle the LNAB before PPP as a forefather. Since Craig used Peterson in his 1999 publication, versus Petersson in 1993, I suggest we stick with use Peterson -- which is what the name currently is.

Peterson-633 and Peterson-800 appear to represent the same person because: The only "fact" on the profile of Peterson-633 is a son named Peter Petersson, who had a daughter named Magdalena.

There are 2 known Hans Peterson's in New Sweden, and both had sons named Peter. However, one of those Peter Petersons was b. 1684 and died unmarried in 1726. So, this Hans with a married son must be the 'other one' which means he is the same as Peterson-800.
