I see you've taken three different DNA tests. What's the difference between them? Where you looking for something specific? Thanks in advance for your insight, - Judi
Nice to hear from you, hope all is well and your holidays were good! What shows on my profile, and what I guess you are referring to, is: Joseph Peterson: 23andMe, GEDmatch M575998 [compare] [test details] + AncestryDNA, Ancestry member joepeterson56 [test details] + MyHeritage DNA [test details]
The first 2, 23andMe & Ancestry are my 2 DNA tests. The 3rd on is actually my mother's DNA test. I had to do her's thru My Heritage, because after try 3 times to test her DNA via Ancestry, I went with My Heritage because they use a cheek swab as opposed to the DNA spit tests. For some reason Ancestry could not due the DNA with her saliva, so I tried the MyHeritage and got the results on the first attempt.
Now, the reason I did MY DNA in both Ancestry and 23andMe, was because I wanted to compare them, out of curiosity and see if the showed the same as far as the same possible relatives or more/less, and also the strength of the possibilities.
What I found extremely interesting though, is that on one DNA (23andMe) Test result, it shows a 4th to 6th cousin named Courtney Lynn. On the other test(Ancestry), she is not listed at all. I can only find her on Ancestry.com by doing a member search, and when I bring her up, it says we are either NOT DNA related or that she has NOT taken a DNA test. But here's what I find even stranger. On Ancestry.com, my sister has her DNA, and it shows Courtney Lynn on my sister's DNA Relative Matches page as a 4th to 6th Cousin ! So I can't figure out why she shows on my sister's Ancestry page but NOT on mine. My sister also has a 23andMe DNA List and Courtney Lynn shows as 4th to 6th Cousin on both my page and my sister's there.
The other DNA Test that shows on my profile here is the MyHeritage Test I did on my mother's DNA. I decided to do my mom's DNA, in the hope that it would narrow down which side of the family some of my DNA Matches come from, Father or Mother family blood line. But so far, as in the case of Courtney Lynn, it hasn't mattered or helped, because I cannot get my mom's DNA list posted on the same sites without incurring more ridiculous charges as a full member under my mother's name. The only site I can think of to try to get my DNA, my sister's, my mother's and Courtney's DNA all on is the GEDmatch site.
I have gone there several times but have not been able to get all of the DNA results uploaded to it yet. The other thing I did notice is that on the 23andMe site, it shows Courtney as a DNA match to both me and my sister, and the same distance cousin, but the DNA numbers are higher for my sister & Courtney then they are for me and Courtney, but I just assumed that could be because of the male/female DNA and the differences in how much males & females get from the Father v the Mother.
I find it all quite confusing and extremely time consuming & I still have not gotten comfortable with this Wiki site yet.
Hope to hear back from you about all this as you seem pretty good with all of this.
Joe
