Biography

I have yet to find a source other than other family trees as to the existence Sarah Elizabeth Pettigrew. Since her parents were born in 1713, and married in 1731, I have changed her date of birth of 1731. Some family trees list Rachel as being the first child, born in 1732, which seems logical. However, since she shows up in many Pettigrew and Moore family trees, I am not going to remove her without due cause. She is my 4th ggm, and without her, half of my ancestors go away. However, I am willing to delete her with proof otherwise. It is a very difficult period in Irish history in which to do research. Since I am 6% Irish, I must have some Irish ancestors. Does anyone else have her in your family tree?

"At the age of 18, James Pettigrew III married Mary Cochran, the daughter of Capt. George Cochran and Rachel Higginbotham who lived at a place called "the Grange".[1].Martha was born Oct 1713 in Tyrone, IRELAND.

After the birth of their first four children, James III and Mary left family and friends and immigrated to American in 1740 where they landed at New Castle, PA. They left their oldest daughter Rachel with her grandmother in Ireland. Sometime later they sent for Rachel but she died on shipboard while crossing the ocean. [The Pettigrew family migrated through Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina and finally settled in Abbeville District of South Carolina.]"

This information from the biography for James III would indicate that Rachel was the oldest child, which I am inclined to believe. More research is needed.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Sarah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sarah:

How confident are you that Sarah Elizabeth Pettigrew is the daughter of James Louis Pettigrew and Mary Ann Cochran? Her birth date seems to be too close to their birth dates. Can we assume that the dates are wrong or does she belong to someone else? Some profiles list Rachel as the first child, born in 1732.

Becky Gibson-Back, Gibson-14492, recently added a large number of unsourced profiles, contrary to WikiTree guidelines. These profiles included many duplicates. The merge on 8/27 involving Sarah Elizabeth Pettigrew just removed one of these duplicates. I am not related to any of these people, and I don't have any knowledge about the accuracy of dates or other information in the profiles.
