William Henry Pettigrew was born to Samuel and Mary Jane (Cofield) Pettigrew in 1854.[1,3,4] William's father was from Virginia and his mother from Ohio.[3,4] The family lived on farms in Indiana and Ohio when William was growing up.
William married Mary Jane Barnes in Hamilton County, Indiana on February 11, 1879.[2] The couple farmed in Hamilton County and sometime between 1880 and 1890 moved to Whitley County where they lived the rest of their lives.[1,6-10] They had two sons, Thomas, born in 1890, and Charles, in 1892.[6,7]
In his 80's, William lived with his son Charles and his family.[10]. William died in 1942.[1]
