In the 1870 census Sarah (age 41), Keeping House, was in Agency, Osage, Kansas.[4] Children: William, Walter, Lorena
In the 1880 census Sarah (age 50), Keeping House, was the widowed mother-in-law of George R. Mann in Olivet, Osage, Kansas, United States.[5] Daughter Lurena was George's wife.
Sarah's obituary was published on 15 February 1906 in Melvern, Kansas, United States (died on 3 February 1906 aged 76).[6] Transcription:
Obituary of Mrs. S. L, Bolan. Sarah L. Pettingill was bom at Corinth, Maine, March 1,1829. She was married to Timothy L. Bolan November 8. 1848, To them was born four children, three sons and one daughter, William, Walter, George and Rena. She died February 3, 1906, at the age of 76 years, 11 mouths and 2 days. She joined the Christian church at the uge of 13 years. came to Osage county, Kansas, in 1865. and has resided here since. Her husband and son George were lost at sea September 7, 1867. Her son William, who is still living, resides on a farm near Melvern, and her son Walter lives in Washington State. Her daughter Rena is the wife of Geo. R. Mann, of Pant Teg, one of the oldest settlers of that place, with whom Mrs. Bolaunhad been making her home for thirty-six years. While Mrs Bolan lived at Punt Te' she made many friends for she was always jolly and- sociable. Her relatives together with her many friends mourn her loss, and her children.
