JOHN CALVERT PETTY was born (possibly in Princess Anne county, Virginia) on January 18,1846, 15 years before the American Civil War (James Knox Polk's 1st year as 11th U.S.President). John was the son of John Petty and Hannah Whitlock Bosher from Kempsville, Virginia, which was then in Princess Anne County. The county merged with the city of Virginia Beach in 1963, and no longer exists; Kempsville became a borough of Virginia Beach.
He died, possibly in Richmond, Virginia, on September 29,1903 (Theodore Roosevelt's 3rd year as 26th President) and was buried in the family lot in Richmond's Hollywood Cemetery.
