Biography

Research Notes

This is the only reference that I can find for the title 'Bishop'. From Family Search: Hans Michael Pfautz 10 August 2013 ·

In 1735 about 7 years prior to Hans Michael's death he made his land deal with "Jacob my oldest son." Only after additional research in the German records did it become apparent that there was a son older than Jacob: Johann Michael Pfautz, Jr., born 1709, who had been disowned by his father when he left the Lutheran church and became a Bishop in the Dunker church. Thus, in the mind of Hans Michael, Sr., his second son Jacob, born 1717, was the heir.

List of ye Palatine Passengers Imported on ye ship William and Sarah. William Hill, Master from Rotterdam, Philadelphia ye 18 Sep 1727 bound for Skippack with a head count of 5. It is understandable why Skippack was listed as his destination since Hans Michael was merely using a relative's address. The Hans Michael Pfautz family arrived in Philadelphia 18 Sep 1727 on the William and Sarah from Rotterdam via Dover, England. Hans Michael Pfautz was responsible for 5 freights - essentially the passage for 5 people. Children under 14 but not under 4 were half-freights. The manifest shows Hans, his wife, and daughter Anna Margaretha (17) - the only child over the age of 14. This meant that there were probably four children between 4 and 14. So it is likely that a total of seven people traveled with Hans Michael, for whose passage money he was responsible.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Johann by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Johann:

Please consider calling him Elder Michael Pfautz as in this reference:

Flautz-2 and Pfautz-23 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents. Hans Michael and Johann Michael are variants of the same name. Both of these profiles are identified as Jr and also as Bishop. Both are married to Catherine.

The conflicting birth date on Flautz-2 looks like a guess -- it is not supported by any source that I can see. I cannot say why the two wives named Catherine have different last names.

LNAB should be Pfautz. Flautz is a mistake. Even the one source (a personally contributed page) cited in that profile calls him Pfautz.
