Biography

According to the family registers of Georg Friedrich Pfenning[1] and Matthias Majer[2] compiled about 1785, Anna Maria Pfenning was born 25 Apr 1728 in Hopfau, Herzogtum Württemberg to Georg Friedrich Pfenning and his wife Maria Agnes Röck. The filmed church records for Hopfau only have one baptism for 1728, and it's not Anna Maria's. It looks like a page was skipped as the page numbers jump from 24-25 to 28-29 while the image numbers are sequential.

On 20 Feb 1748, Anna Maria married Matthaus Majer, son of Michel Majer, Gerichtverwandters auch hoftbaurers alhier (juryman and tenant farmer?), in Hopfau.[3] According to the family register compiled by the Hopfau Evangelische Kirche, they had 9 children:[2]

  • Anna Maria, 29 Aug 1749 - 1781
  • Christina, b. 16 Nov 1751
  • Johannes, b. 26 Dec 1753
  • Michael, b. 19 Mar 1756
  • stillborn? daughter, 29 Nov 1757
  • Matthaus, b. 11 Apr 1759
  • Christian, b.2 Jul 1761
  • Maria Agnes, b. 20 Mar 1764
  • Andreas, b. 2 Apr 1769

Anna Maria died in Hopfau 26 Nov 1794 and was buried the 29th.[4] Matthias died there 4 years later, on 18 Dec 1798.[5]

Research Notes

  • The region where Anna Maria and her ancestors were from appears to have a very complicated history, being frequently caught up in the wars of the 1600s and 1700s. I think that the villages where they lived were part of Württemberg when they lived there, at least as far back as the church records go.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Anna by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Anna:
