Born Leitha H. Phariss on 19 Sep, 1801 in Rhea, Tennessee, United States to Robert Phariss (1773-1857) b. Meigs, Tennessee, d. Meigs, Tennessee and Nancy Dyer (1775-1844) b. Braintree, Norfolk, Massachusetts, d. Tennessee.

Married 1 Apr 1819 in Rhea, Tennessee, United States Litha Phariss, wife of Samuel Mantooth, was his first cousin. Samuel's mother was Elizabeth Phariss wife of Thomas Mantooth.

They raised 8 children, John Calvin Mantooth, Robert Mantooth, Thomas Fredrick Mantooth (who served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and has been missing in action since the fall of 1863), Hugh Mantooth (had no children but raised his brother Doc's children by his first marriage), Hettie Mantooth (married her first cousin Robert Mantooth and had 4 children), Doctor Houston Mantooth, Elizabeth Mantooth, Sarah Mantooth.

Notes

I found a second record of marriage and it shows Leitha's maiden name as Phariss. I have sourced them both. Edwards-13482 08:36, 26 November 2017 (EST)

Her grandfather/father's family Bible spells her name as Litha Phariss. The Telitha came from a census record but is not correct - provided by geneobug (note: not all family bibles recorded a child's full name, many used their nickname-so the name could or could not be correct)
