Biography

Birth

Violet Phelan was born 31 March 1899 in St. Louis, MO, to James and Delia (Brandon) Phelan. She was the oldest of six children, with four brothers, Lawrence, Everett (whose name was misspelled on the 1910 census as Evhart), Raymond, and Harold, and sister Aileen.[1]

Marriage

She married Alvin H. Lohbeck before 1918 in St. Louis, MO.[2]

Notable Events

Violet was a housewife, but was a voracious reader and lover of classical music. She instilled in her children and grandchildren a love of learning that each carried into adulthood. She was also very skilled at quilting, embroidering, and the lost art of tatting. She had four children: Ruth, Jeanne, Don, and Alvin. Her husband, Alvin H. Lohbeck passed away in 1961. She did not remarry.[3]

Death

Violet Phelan Lohbeck died 22 December 1981 at the age of 82. She is interred at Lakewood Park Cemetery in Affton, St. Louis County, MO.[4]
