Research notes and Profile History

Original profile intent was the creation of the Elizabeth Phelps, who some claim married John Alden. There is too much uncertainty for the profile to be wife of John Alden third.

Merging notice

This profile is the result of merging 4 profiles belonging to Elizabeth Phelps, daughter of Samuel Phelps and Widow Elizabeth -- and granddaughter of Samual Phelps and Sarah Griswold of Windsor, Connecticut. Her parents seem to have resided in Boston Massachusetts, where Elizabeth was born on September 5, 1681.

She was listed on the profile of John Alden III as wife. It seems a very unlikely marriage as he was married to Elizabeth Gwinn during this same time period from 1687 to November 26, 1719. John Alden Jr's wife was Elisabeth Phillips. The similar names may have been confused. Becky Syphers

P.S. I realize the birth years are different (see prior note below)(1669 v. 1699), but note the birth year in this profile's year of birth also differs between header (1669) and the paragraph referenced (1681). Thanks for considering ... and/or letting me know where my observation is "off".

I agree this profile's Elizabeth Phelps is most likely not a spouse of an Alden. I also have an idea re: content under the 1st paragraph of "Merging notice" and a possible additional merge ... I wonder if what's mentioned regarding Elizabeth's parents is a bit off and this Elizabeth could instead be the daughter of Timothy Phelps Phelps-385 and Sarah Pratt Pratt-403, rather than what is written (Samuel Phelps and Widow Elizabeth). Timothy's parents are on WT as Samuel Phelps Phelps-378 & Sarah Griswold Griswold-101, the same grandparents listed in this profile's text. // If true, perhaps Phelps-5890 and Phelps-1 could be merged keeping primarily/(only?) the content in 5890.

Phelps-1 married John Alden III in 1684. See line of succession above. There is an Elizabeth Phillps Everill who married John Alden Jr. which is where the confusion comes from.
I propose this profile to be merged with Gwinn-43, Elizabeth (Gwinn) Alden (1668 - 1719). Wife of John Alden Jr — married about 1 Apr 1660 in Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay.

The original information provided matches Gwinn-43, except the surname. I believe the surname "Phelps" was meant to be "Phillips", which would have been her married name. The Aldens, Phelps, and Phillips were all original settlers in Massachusetts in the 1650's

Elizabeth, purportedly born in 1681 cannot be the daughter of Samuel, who died in 1669. Sarah remarried in 1670, and therefore she cannot be the mother of a Phelps born in 1681. I am disconnecting them as her parents.
