Biography

John H. Phelps served in Company H, 34 Virginia Inf (formerly 4Reg. VA Heavy Artillery).

Phelps Family Association of America reports that John H. married first in North Carolina and that he and his first wife had 5 children, including William A. Phelps born about 1825. Shortly after the birth of the 5th child, Dorcas, b. 1834, John's first wife died. In March of that same year John married Alsey Love, b. about 1805, daughter of William Love. Alsey died in Laurel County, Kentucky after 1870.
