MEMORIAL PHOTOS 1 FLOWERS 2 HARRY PHELPS Harry Donald Phelps died at Prineville, Oregon Thursday, Oct 21, 1993 due to complications associated with lung cancer, He was 76. He was born Jan. 7, 1917 at Hood River, the son of E E and Minnie Abbott Phelps. He attended Hood River public schools, and served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II. In 1940, he married Dorothea Franz and was affiliated with Franz Furniture store until it closed. After that he operated a ranch at Mosier for a few years. In 1948 Harry and Dobie moved to Spray and began operating the Corn Cob Ranch, which he later purchased. Dobie preceded him in death in 1967 and in 1973 he married Ruth Gibson Pruden. Harry and Ruth retired from ranching in 1976, but remained in the Spray area until 1989 when they moved to Prineville. They spent their winters golfing and enjoying the sun at Palm Desert, California. Harry was active in the American Legion, B.P.O. Elks, and Oregon Cattleman's Association. He was also a long time board member for the Wheeler County Soil Conservation Service and Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He is servived by his wife, Ruth, of Prineville; sisters Marguarite Malttar of Beaverton and Ruth McDonald of The Dalles; and step-brother, Norris Delore of Coos Bay. Graveside services were held at Idlewild Cemetery at Hood River.
