Elizabeth Philip was born 22 Mar 1867 in Kemnay, the daughter of John Philip and Catherine Middleton. 4 year old Elizabeth is living with her parents and siblings John George and Isabella at Dalriach in Kemnay. Also there is her maternal grandmother Isabella Clark. In the 1881 census, Lizzie, age 14 is living with her widowed Father John Philip at the Croft of Dalriach. Also there are her siblings John G, Isabella, Catherine A, Amelia K B and half sibling Mary Jean Craigen.
