Biography

According to the 1851 census, Joseph Phillips was born about 1786 in the parish of Nolton, But as yet I have not found a baptism, there are only two other candidates for Joseph, one was baptized in St Mary Pembroke, the other was in Steynton. It is not known when Joseph married, but I was about 1801, because we have a baptism at Walton West parish church for their first recorded child, William, and an Unnamed Child, who were both baptized in 1802. Joseph and his wife Jane, had a total of nine children, over a nineteen year period. These are William) an unnamed child, (b 1802) Joseph (b 1804) Ann (b 1806) Mary (b 1809) Thomas (b 1812) Martha (b 1813) and the youngest Jane (b 1821) Joseph and Jane can be found on the 1841 census for Walton West parish, only one of their children, is at the address, this is Mary aged 30, and a possible granddaughter Jane (b 1830). As yet we do not know who Jane’s parents are. By 1851 Joseph is a widower, and can be found on the census for Walton West, with his daughter Mary, and his granddaughter Jane. Joseph’s occupation is entered as shoemaker. Joseph is not found beyond 1851, and I have no further data to add to his profile. Written by Keith Rees 2016
