Rhode Island Historical Cemeteries records David Phillip's birth in Scituate in the year 1770.[1] It is noted that he is the "husband of Amy".
The genealogical work by Phillips, Albert M. (1885) gives the more precise birthdate of 10 Nov 1769[2] and lists all (12) children of David and Amey (Smith) Phillips, with their birthdates.
David died 9 Aug 1847 in Scituate, and is buried in the "Phillips-Smith Lot", Route 6, in Scituate.[1]. This location is also known as Rhode Island Historical Cemetery Scituate #93, according to Find A Grave.[3]
There is another birth / death record for David Phillips, "son of David and Amy (Smith)", who was born 10 Jul 1804 in North Scituate. This is one of David's sons and the brother of Amey (Phillips) Angell.[4]
Research Notes
The original information entered when this profile was created stated that David Phillips "was the son of Jeremiah Phillips and Margaret Stanton." This conflicts with the information provided by Phillips (1885) which gives David's father as Jeremy Phillips, a farmer of Gloucester, Rhode Island. This Jeremy (parentage not given), died about 1822, age 70 or 75, indicating his birth year was about 1750. Therefore, Jeremiah Phillips and Margaret Stanton have been disconnected from this profile, as has "brother" Jeremiah. Phillips (1885) gives David's brothers as Robert, Stephen and Bani.
