Biography

Carmel Martin Phillips, 37, of South Bethany, veteran of the World War, died last night at 10:15 o'clock in the county hospital of pneumonia with which he had been ill several days. The body is at the Hathaway funeral home, but will be moved home tomorrow where the casket will be open from 2 o'clock in the afternoon until time of the funeral. Services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the South Bethany Christian church conducted by the Rev. James Small, of this city. Burial will be at made in the South Bethany cemetery. Mr. Phillips spent his entire life in the South Bethany community and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips, of Beck's Grove. His parents and his wife and several children survive. He engaged in farming throughout his life. He was a member of the American Legion and that organization will hold services at the grave. A firing squad will salute.
