Biography

Elizabeth (Phillips) Bishop immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Elizabeth Philips was born c1628, daughter of George Philips of Boxford, Essex, England and (__) Sergeant. The family came to New England in 1630 and settled at Watertown, Massachusetts. [1]

Her mother died shortly after their arrival, and her father married widow Elizabeth (___) Weldon. [1]

Elizabeth married Job Bishop, of Ipswich, Massachusetts by 1651. [1]

1651: 1st month: The court ordered Job Bishop was to be fined or whipped for fornication, his wife having delivered a child, 20 weeks after their marriage. [2]

On May 17, 1651, her father's widow Elizabeth Philips, acknowledged an undated deed to Job Bishop, for sums of money due to Elizabeth, his wife, the daughter of George Philips, deceased, from her father's will. [3]
