Biography

Abigail Phillips, daughter of Henry and Ann (Hunting) Phillips was born at Dedham. [1]

She likely was the wife of Jonathan Woodbury, who died in 1677.

Jonathan and Abigial Woodbury had a son Jonathan, born at Boston on February 22, 1672. [2]

  • 1677: May 7: Relict widow Abigai Woodbury, Henry Phillips and John ?Dobins posted bond and petitioned the court for administration of the estate of her husband, Jonathan Woodbury, late of Boston, deceased. [3]

She married David East, mariner of Boston. In her father Henry's will, written on August 7, 1682, he names, among others, his daughter Abigial East. [4] David East was born at Boston, Massachusetts on January 26, 1647 [26:11:1646], son of Francis and Mary East, and baptized at the First Church 3 days later. [2]

David East died intestate, prior to May 7, 1685, when bond was posted for his estate. [5]

  • 1685: March 24: Francis East submitted testament that he had received of Henry Phillips, butcher of Boston, the sum of L200, for a dwelling house, land and orchard at Boston. Samuel Philips, aged 24 and RIchard Griffin, aged 18, testified as witnesses that they did see Francis East sign the document. [6]
  • 1685: April 7: The estate inventory was taken and on April 29th, widow Abigail East, submitted it to the court. [5]
  • 1685: May 7: Abigail East, relict widow of David East, mariner, deceased, Henry Phillips, butcher and Samuel Phillips, bookseller, all of Boston, posted L300 as bond for David's estate. Abigail was allowed administration. [5]
  • 1685: August 26: Henry Phillips, victualler of Boston, his wife Mary Phillips and daughter Abigail East, relict widow of David East, mariner deceased, sold a parcel of land in Boston to Jabez Negus for L11. [6]

Thomas Walter and Abigail East, both of Boston, were married on September 19, 1687. [7]
